Sherman Guitars is owned and operated by veteran luthier Michael Sherman, who has over 32 years of experience building custom instruments in addition to an engineering backround.
Prior to opening Sherman Guitars, Mike honed his skills in the custom shops of Hohner, Hamer, Dean, Ovation and Washburn Guitars. Working for these companies allowed Mike to develop his craft while building relationships with major artists.
This is not your average guitar company. This is a Custom Shop guitar company. There is no mass production line. “One-offs” are their specialty.
They have been crafting muti-scale, extended-scale and extended-range instruments for several years. Mike likes instruments that challenge the mind, both from a design and from a creative standpoint.
At Sherman Guitars, only the finest seasoned hardwoods are used. The best woods are constantly sourced and immediately entered into a kiln for six weeks before being seasoned another two full years prior to working them. This lengthy process allows the company to keep a log on the movement and natural stresses in the wood. The woods must pass stringent guidelines before they are selected for your instrument.
Every detail of every instrument is then carefully handcrafted to extremely strict standards. Each one is built as if it were one of Mike’s personal instruments. If an instrument doesn’t meet that lofty benchmark, then it’s simply not good enough for the customer. If it has Michael Sherman’s name on it, then it needs to be perfect!
Sherman Guitars are then finished with a labor-intensive twelve-coat polyurethane/laquer mixture for extreme depth and clarity. All colors are mixed in-house, so completely custom colors are obtainable.
Obviously, Sherman Guitars does not build the cheapest instruments in the world, but prices are kept as low as possible, and it’s important that the customer gets more than they paid for. Contact Mike today and let Sherman Guitars turn your dream instrument into reality.
